NEW SYLLABUS COMING TO CANTERBURY BALLET IN 2027
Canterbury Ballet & Dance Academy is excited to introduce Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet training from 2027, giving our dancers the opportunity to train through one of the world's most recognised classical ballet syllabi.
This exciting addition will complement our existing American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Syllabus training, giving students and families greater choice in their classical ballet education.

What is the Royal Academy of Dance?
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the world's largest and most influential classical ballet organisations. Founded over 100 years ago, the RAD is internationally recognised for its high standards of ballet training, teaching and examination.
The RAD syllabus provides a structured progression through classical ballet, developing a dancer's technical ability, musicality, artistry, strength, coordination and performance quality at every stage of their training.
From young dancers taking their first steps in ballet through to advanced vocational training, the RAD offers a clear pathway for students to develop their skills and work towards internationally recognised examinations.
At Canterbury Ballet, we will offer RAD training from Primary through to Advanced 2, providing a pathway that can grow with each dancer throughout their ballet education.
Why RAD at Canterbury Ballet?
Adding RAD training to our academy gives our students:
-
An internationally recognised ballet pathway
-
A structured progression from Primary through to Advanced 2
-
The opportunity to work towards RAD examinations
-
Development of strong classical ballet technique
-
A focus on musicality, artistry and performance
-
Clear goals and milestones throughout their training
-
The opportunity to experience a second internationally recognised ballet methodology
-
A classical training pathway that can complement other dance styles and pre-professional training
Most importantly, RAD training will sit alongside Canterbury Ballet's existing programs and philosophy of developing well-rounded, confident and versatile dancers.
